From Amanda Vance’s 2023 Inktober Series, where each illustration was first drawn on authentic 1960s dictionary pages inspired by daily word prompts.

For the word “Rise”, Amanda creates a blackout-style cityscape design. Thick black smoke rises from a factory next to two high rise skyscrapers. Blacking out words to represent both atmosphere and reflection, the effect is urban and familiar.
